10 YA Books With Creepy Skull Covers

It’s time for another Top Ten Tuesday! This week’s is a Halloween freebie, and I feel like I have seen a ton of covers with skulls lately, so here we are. In case you don’t know, Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted at That Artsy Reader Girl, who you should go check out! The first few of these are obvious, but the later ones are a little more subtle.

  1. The Lantern’s Ember

I really wanted to read this one before Halloween, but I started it and just couldn’t get into it. I think I’ll try again next year. Very cool cover, though.

2. Dead School

I read this one, but unfortunately it wasn’t my favorite (see my review here). I really like the cover though.

3. Kingdom of the Wicked

I really want to read this one, although I’ve been seeing some mixed reviews. I’m not sure I can resist that cover though.

4. The Bone Houses

I’ve never read this one, but the cover has always intrigued me. Has anyone read this one? Is it any good?

5. The Bone Witch

I’ve been eyeing this series for a while. Oh, so many books, so little time.

6. All the Stars and Teeth

I really, really want to read this one. I’m always interested in pirate stories. Maybe a pirate series is in my blog’s future, lol.

7. Kingdom of Souls

I’m not sure if I’ll end up reading this one or not, but I think the cover is very cool. Is this a favorite of anyone’s? I haven’t heard much about it.

8. The Bone Charmer

Again, I haven’t heard a lot about this one, but I do like the cover.

9. Ink in the Blood

This one looks so neat! And it took me a pathetically long time to find that skull.

10. The Devouring Gray

This one has also been on my list for a while! Super creepy and appropriate for Halloween, right?

Well, this was a fun TTT! Hope you all have a very happy Halloween and happy reading!

  1. Loved your TTT! Similar to what you said about hearing mixed things about Kingdom of the Wicked, there were also mixed things about her other novel, Stalking Jack the Ripper. I quite enjoyed Stalking Jack the Ripper so I am hoping I like Kingdom of the Wicked as well. The Lantern’s Ember cover is super cool! The only books I have read from Colleen Hauck was the Tiger’s Curse series, which I absolutely loved. Sorry to hear you couldn’t get into the Lantern’s Ember! Maybe after a bit of a break you will find more interest in it! 😊

    1. Hmm, I didn’t know that. I haven’t read either of Maniscalco’s books, but I am very much hoping I like Kingdom of the Wicked. I don’t think I have read anything by Colleen Hauck, but I am hoping I will like The Lantern’s Ember after a break! I think I just didn’t expect it to be historical, and I wasn’t in the mood, lol. Thank you and happy reading. 🙂

  2. I haven’t noticed any covers with skulls lately, but I think I’m just out of touch with books, haha. I don’t believe any of these are on my TBR, except *maybe* All the Stars and Teeth. These covers are rather pleasing to look at though.

  3. Ooh, this is a fun take on the Halloween freebie. I like seeing the variety of skulls and whether it’s a main image or hidden somewhere in the rest of the cover. Very cool idea! 🙂
